16.79

今尋唯識第七云：前三無色有此根者，有勝見道傍修得故，或二乘位迴趣大者，為證法空，地前亦起九地所攝生空無漏，彼皆並此根攝故。

Now examining the seventh fascicle of the Vijñaptimātratāsiddhi, it says: The reason the former three formless [absorptions] have this faculty is that it is acquired by lateral cultivation during the superior path of seeing; or because when practitioners of the two vehicles turn toward the Great [Vehicle], in order to realize the emptiness of phenomena, they also give rise prior to the grounds to the taintless realization of the emptiness of self comprised by the nine stages—all of which are subsumed under this faculty.
