17.178

法中，意謂如殺前生對究竟時，彼雖無念令他得罪。然由所殺受苦威力令彼能殺思果成其增上根本業道，故名塗染。

In the doctrine, the meaning is that when a killing is culminated with respect to the life preceding [death], although that [victim] has no thought of causing the other to incur guilt, nevertheless, by the power of the suffering experienced by the one killed, the volition-fruit of that killer becomes a sovereign fundamental path of action; hence it is called defiling adherence.
