In the text of the first section, it states: Regarding the eleven births, Jing says: 1. Solely pleasurable, meaning the lower three dhyānas. 2. Solely painful, the hells. 3. Mixed pain and pleasure, meaning the six heavens, humans, ghosts, and animals. 4. Neither painful nor pleasurable, the fourth dhyāna and above. 5. Ordinary worldlings of the desire realm. 6. The eighth stage and above. 7. Ordinary worldlings of the higher realms: having abandoned the defilements of desire, their substance is called pure; being ordinary worldlings, they are called impure. 8. Being born in the desire realm is called impure; because they possess the Dharma of nirvāṇa and are born in a realm of leisure, it is called pure. 9. Being born in a place of pure and impure: the seventh was based on substance, whereas this ninth is explained based on place, and this constitutes the distinction. The tenth and eleventh can be understood.
