Regarding the three kinds of generating karma, Ji states: '1. Associated generation, which is simultaneous arising in an instant; 2. direct generation, which is proximate causal arising; 3. predominant generation, which refers to remote causal arising, further inducing other afflictions to generate karma. Or the former has already subsumed them completely, and the fourth [third], predominant, means generating karma only after further giving rise to more afflictions. Now, examining the treatise, since it explicitly states three kinds, the previous explanation is superior. Alternatively, ignorance arising together with karma is called associated; a prior moment of ignorance inducing a subsequent karma is called direct generation, further inducing other assistance; or karma generated by ignorance is called predominant.'
