備云：五事謂由前八遍所故，能引發三事，謂化事一，變事二，諸聖神通三，此有神通也。空一切處故引發往還無礙諸聖神通四，識一切處故引發無諍等諸勝功德為第五，以下文是解第五識一切處功能。

Bei says: As for the five matters, they mean that by means of the previous eight totalities, one can elicit three matters, namely, (1) works of creation, (2) works of transformation, and (3) the supernormal powers of the noble ones—these are powers with physical obstruction. (4) By means of the space-totality, one elicits the noble ones' supernormal powers of unobstructed movement back and forth; and (5) by means of the consciousness-totality, one elicits superior virtues such as non-contention, which serves as the fifth. The subsequent text explains the function of the fifth, the consciousness-totality.
