17.457

問：諸邊無色何故不立支耶？答支所攝禪是其樂道，諸邊無色是苦道，故不立支，小論云咸及難得故當知是說苦。

Question: Why do the peripheral and formless attainments not establish limbs? Answer: Dhyānas subsumed as having limbs belong to the pleasant path; the peripheral and formless attainments are the difficult path, so they do not establish limbs. A lesser treatise says: 'Because they are salty and hard to obtain, know that this speaks of suffering.'
