In the sixth explanation, regarding the establishment of the factors of dhyāna to counteract one's painful practices: painful practices and afflictions can cause deficiency in the noble path, so these afflictions are called the 'deficiency of the counteractive path'. Investigation and reflection can counteract this, so they are called 'the counteraction to the deficiency of the counteractive path'. Joy and bliss are the counteractions to the affliction of body and mind. One-pointedness of mind is the counteraction to wandering towards external intentional objects.
