17.49

先辨麁相今約巨細等者，謂問準前論文，欲界四見及慢喜捨相應，貪與樂喜捨相應悉與苦憂捨相應，邪見與喜憂捨相應，疑與憂捨相應，無明一切五根相應，與此不同耶？故為釋通，先辨根相應義，約麁道理引初行者，今細分別引久行者。

Regarding 'first distinguishing the coarse marks, now in terms of minute detail,' and so on: It is asked, according to the previous treatise text, the four views and conceit of the desire realm are conjoined with joy and equanimity, greed is conjoined with pleasure, joy, and equanimity, anger is wholly conjoined with suffering, grief, and equanimity, wrong view is conjoined with joy, grief, and equanimity, doubt is conjoined with grief and equanimity, and ignorance is conjoined with all five faculties—is this not different from this text? Therefore, to reconcile and resolve it: first distinguishing the meaning of conjunction with faculties was based on coarse principles to guide beginners; now distinguishing in detail is to guide long-term practitioners.
