In the brief section, questions and answers resolve difficulties. As for "whether internal, external, intermediate, or apart from the aggregates, it is unobtainable": regarding the self imputed by you, when investigating everywhere among the internal sense-faculties, the external dust-objects, and the intermediate six consciousnesses—the eighteen dhatus—the self is unobtainable. Another explanation is: one's own continuum is called internal, other continuums and the external receptacle-world are called external, and what is neither internal nor external is called intermediate. A formal argument (prayogavākya) should be established: "The self posited by you is definitively non-existent; because it is unobtainable; like a flower in the sky." Regarding "as with the eyes and so on, up to... it is utterly invisible": real entities such as the eyes and so on each have observable actions and functions, but the actions and functions of the imputed self are utterly invisible. The formal argument should be established: "The self posited by you lacks both substance and function; because it is invisible; like the horn of a hare."
