As for the statement 'there is what is impermanent but not suffering, referring to the truth of the path and so forth': the path is not a painful feeling, so it is not the suffering of suffering; the path is not the deterioration of separation from what is loved, nor is it the deterioration of an object when failing to obtain what is sought. Furthermore, deterioration is of two kinds: first, the deterioration of pleasant feeling generates suffering; second, the destruction of what is loved generates suffering. The path is not the arising of suffering from the destruction of what is loved, so it is not the suffering of change. This passage proves that suffering arisen from conditions is called the suffering of change. If based on the Tattvasiddhi, the impermanence of the single truth of the path is the truth of suffering; if based on the Sarvāstivāda, the arising of the truth of the path accords with the intention of the noble ones, so it is not suffering.
