Regarding the 'five kinds of pudgalas': First, the metaphor of fine wisdom, which determines the text according to the meaning. Second, the metaphor of the parrot, which determines the meaning according to the text. Third, the person likened to a torch, meaning one of little learning but great understanding, like a single lamp or torch passing its flame along continuously. Fourth, the person likened to lightning, who, regarding the previous ten kinds of karmans, sometimes briefly understands and sometimes does not see, like that lightning. Fifth, the person likened to a painting or drawing, who acts according to the text without adding or subtracting.
