In the chapter, it is also explained: the non-intrinsic-nature of characteristics is solely the absence of the parikalpita nature of the two falsely imputed objects of person and dharma. As for the non-intrinsic-nature of arising: because the paratantra arises from multiple conditions and does not arise spontaneously, the paratantra is said to have the nature of the non-nature of arising; this refers to the absence of the intrinsic nature or substantial nature of spontaneous arising. As for the non-intrinsic-nature of the ultimate, there are two kinds: first, because the paratantra lacks the ultimate, the conventional phenomena of the paratantra are spoken of as the nature of the non-nature of the ultimate; this is the non-intrinsic-nature of the ultimate within conventional truth, just as the truth of suffering lacks a real self and is therefore spoken of as non-self; second, because the ultimate of tathatā lacks the paratantra, it is called the nature of the non-nature of the ultimate.
