Maitreya Bodhisattva says: One should say to them: 'What is conventional? What is ultimate?' Having asked this, Bhāviveka and others answer: 'All paratantra dharmas have no intrinsic nature; this is called the ultimate. If within what has no intrinsic nature, an intrinsic nature of causes and conditions can be obtained, this is called the conventional. Why is this? Within what truly does not exist, conventional existent dharmas are established, provisionally positing names and words to give rise to discourse; therefore it is called conventional.'
