The sixth sūtra says: 'Evenly contemplating whether form up to consciousness is impermanent or not, etc.' This means that with an equanimous mind in samādhi, one follows the objects and contemplates whether form up to consciousness is impermanent, because the word 'impermanence' has a hidden intent. The author of the treatise explains: With respect to form, etc., falsely conceptualized as having a permanent nature, one speaks of impermanence based on the lack of nature of characteristics. Why? The author of the treatise intends to explain the words of the sūtra; because the words of the sūtra inverted [the phrasing] and could say 'permanently non-existent,' since permanence is falsely conceptualized upon paratantra form and so forth, it is called 'permanently non-existent'; yet that sūtra itself intended to say that one evenly contemplates the five aggregates as permanently non-existent.
