外立宗云：世間言說以語說名詮於義，詮自相時不詮共相，此自相名乃至不詮能取所取。言若即彼名乃至應不可得者，外人通解，若其一法之名能詮多法，如隨別名起別行解，應不可得隨別名起別行解，當知。一法之名不詮多法，論主總非，作此執者不應道理。

The opponent establishes their thesis, saying: Wordly conventional discourse expresses referents with speech stating names; when expressing specific characteristics, it does not express common characteristics, and this name of a specific characteristic even does not express the grasper and the grasped. When it says, "If it were identical to that name... it should be unobtainable," the opponent resolves it: If the name of one dharma could express multiple dharmas, just as distinct understandings arise following distinct names, it should be unobtainable that distinct understandings arise following distinct names; one should know that the name of one dharma does not express multiple dharmas. The author of the treatise generally negates this: For one to make this adherence does not accord with reason.
