先不思覺等者，先不思量我有情覺，卒爾而起有情之覺。明知有我，先已思等者，由先已思我當作等而有作業明知有我。

Regarding ‘without prior thought and awareness, etc.’: without previously considering the thought of ‘I, a sentient being’, the thought of a sentient being arises abruptly; thus one clearly knows there is a self. Regarding ‘having previously thought, etc.’: because having previously thought ‘I shall act, etc.’, there is the performance of karma; thus one clearly knows there is a self.
