備公解云：今依此論，上八地獄高之由旬各有四千，故從此洲至等活地獄上有三萬二千由旬，下自據之量四千由旬，餘七地獄向下而住各據四千，凡八箇四千合三萬二千由旬，等活向上復有三萬二千由旬，合有六萬四千由旬，猶有一萬六千由旬不至金地。

Venerable Bei explains, saying: Now relying on this treatise, the heights of each of the upper eight hells are four thousand yojanas; therefore from this continent to the top of the Saṃjīva hell there are thirty-two thousand yojanas, and down through its own extent is four thousand yojanas; the remaining seven hells reside downward, each occupying four thousand, totaling eight times four thousand, which makes thirty-two thousand yojanas; from Saṃjīva upward there are further thirty-two thousand yojanas, totaling sixty-four thousand yojanas, leaving sixteen thousand yojanas before reaching the golden ground.
