Under "If, relying on the limit of cessation, one seeks the end of the world...": this refers to observing the time when the kalpa of destruction breaks off; not seeing subsequent formation, one then conceives the mark of finitude. Because the self will not be born later, it is not a view of finitude. If one sees the kalpa of formation and does not see the time of destruction, one conceives the notion of infinitude. If, relying on the ten directions, one seeks all around: seeing the extreme limit in the upper and lower regions, one conceives the notion of also being finite; extending supernormal powers horizontally to one or two thousand worlds but not reaching three thousand, assuming it to be infinite, one conceives the notion of also being infinite. This is because the knowledge of the supernormal powers of ordinary beings does not exceed three thousand [worlds]. Fascicle eighty-seven explains this differently. It says: "When one recollected the state of the kalpa of formation, at that time three kinds of false notions arose: if one exclusively recollected the upper and lower limits, one abided in the notion of finitude; if one exclusively recollected the horizontal infinity, one abided in the notion of infinitude; if one recollected both the lower/upper and the horizontal together, one gave rise to [the notion of] both finite and infinite; when one recollected the state of the kalpa of destruction, one gave rise to the notion of neither finite nor infinite." Because nothing is apprehended in the physical worlds, each citing one attachment does not contradict the other.
