Master Bei says: First, although one seeks offerings from others, the condition is indeterminate as to whether it succeeds or fails; hence it says 'the condition for offerings.' Second, regarding the faith they gather, it is indeterminate: some obey the devas' teachings and some do not. Third, regarding the condition of faith, it is also indeterminate: toward devas there is both faith and disbelief. Fourth, regarding the matters of faith, it is indeterminate: sentient beings' wished-for matters may be granted or not granted. Fifth, devas have superior and inferior [ranks]; seeking a superior deva body cannot be fulfilled. Sixth, there are poor devas; seeking superior wealth and pleasure also cannot be fulfilled. Seventh, regarding non-deva enemies, they cannot destroy them, nor can they cause them to succumb and perish.
