20.464

前中，顧戀身，顧戀財，是止障，於聖法不得隨欲，果觀障，樂相雜住，及小欲喜足，不樂多修，俱障止觀。由第一故不能造修者，樂相雜住。由第二故，所修加行不到究竟者，小欲喜足。

In the first part, longing for the body and longing for wealth are hindrances to śamatha; not attaining as desired with respect to the noble Dharma is a hindrance to vipaśyanā; delighting in dwelling in mixed association, having few desires and contentment, and not delighting in extensive cultivation hinder both śamatha and vipaśyanā. 'Due to the first, one cannot undertake cultivation' refers to delighting in dwelling in mixed association. 'Due to the second, the applied practices cultivated do not reach culmination' refers to having few desires and contentment.
