Another explanation: older commentators, relying on the Madhyāntavibhāga, state that the seven kinds of tathatā are all tathatā, and when it speaks of the 'tathatā of the truth of suffering', 'the truth of suffering' gets its name from that which expresses it. When it speaks of 'the marks of that which is appropriated, felt, cognized, and afflicted or purified by the mind', this refers to the four applications of mindfulness. As for 'suffering having changing marks and unchanging marks', the suffering of suffering and the suffering of change are called having changing experience, while the suffering of conditioning is called unchanging.
