初問答中，言唯住有餘，可有此事者，問曰：若爾，何故楞伽經云：大慧菩薩白佛言，世尊如何聲聞佛說得成阿耨菩提，佛告大慧菩薩為無餘涅槃者說？

In the first question and answer, regarding the phrase 'only abiding in [nirvāṇa] with remainder can this matter occur', the question asks: If so, why does the Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra state: 'The Bodhisattva Mahāmati said to the Buddha: "World-Honoured One, how is it that the Buddha teaches that śrāvakas attain anuttarabodhi?" The Buddha told the Bodhisattva Mahāmati: "This is spoken for those in nirvāṇa without remainder"'?
