3. The characteristic adduced through homogeneous analogies: in 'adducing birth and death obtained and commonly known in the world among internal and external aggregates of conditioned phenomena as an analogy,' this reinforces the use of coarse impermanence as an analogy for subtle impermanence, and is called 'homogeneous.' In 'adducing the various characteristics of suffering, such as birth, obtained and commonly known in the world as an analogy,' this reinforces the use of coarse suffering of suffering as an analogy for subtle suffering of conditioned existence, and is called 'homogeneous.' In 'adducing the characteristic of lack of self-mastery commonly known in the world as an analogy,' this reinforces the use of the characteristic of lack of self-mastery commonly known in the world as an analogy for subtle selflessness. In the passage 'Furthermore, regarding external... as an analogy,' this again adduces the coarse characteristics of flourishing and decline as an analogy for subtle impermanence.
