'Eighth, brahma-faring: meaning the eightfold path'—the three kinds of explanations of brahma are as previously clarified. 'It should be known that this path is elucidated through four kinds of wondrous marks such as being pure and unmixed': this text then says that brahma-faring is the general, and the four starting with pure and unmixed sequentially explain the preceding three meanings, without separately explaining brahma-faring. This text's divisions differ: in the past, it was always said that brahma-faring is the general and the remaining seven are the particulars. Tai says: Although it cites the eightfold noble path and so forth, here it cites what is expressed to reveal the expressive teaching, clarifying the praise of supremacy in general.
