22.33

問曰：學勝利等四句於根本事中，何故不說勝進，得方便十二行中？何故不說離行善行勝進分行自義行，悲愍他事五中？何故不說離欲等耶？今釋通之，故云：當知此中亦通有善等行，隨其最勝但說清淨行。

Question: 'Why do the four phrases beginning with the benefit of training not speak of advancing excellence among the fundamental affairs? Why do they not speak of practice of renunciation, good practice, practice of the component of advancing excellence, and practice for one's own welfare among the twelve practices of obtaining expedients? Why do they not speak of freedom from desire and so forth among the five affairs of showing compassion for others?' Now, resolving this, it says: 'One should know that here it also generally includes good practices and so on, but in accordance with what is most preeminent, it speaks only of pure practice.'
