初解二品總略，略由三處總攝一切黑品、白品，一、由所遍知法故者，明得九遍知處，則一切有漏苦集也；二、由遍知故者，正是擇滅九遍知體；三、由成遍知故者，則是聖道及佛菩薩聖弟子，并是成遍知緣也。滅道俱是白品，九遍知俱攝滅諦，故云白品一分。

First, in explaining the summary of the two categories, in brief, all dark categories and bright categories are comprehensively gathered by means of three loci: 1. 'by means of phenomena thoroughly known', which clarifies the loci of obtaining the nine thorough knowledges, namely all tainted suffering and arising; 2. 'by means of thorough knowledge', which is precisely the essence of the nine thorough knowledges of analytical cessation; and 3. 'by means of accomplishing thorough knowledge', which refers to the noble path as well as the Buddhas, bodhisattvas, and noble disciples, all of which are the conditions for accomplishing thorough knowledge. Cessation and the path are both bright categories; the nine thorough knowledges all subsume the truth of cessation, hence it is said to be 'a portion of the bright category'.
