Third, regarding the verbal teaching on transcending hindrances and inclining toward craving: it means staying far away from all hindrances, as well as leaving behind all views, inclinations, and craving. There are three kinds of verbal teachings: first, all afflictions are called hindrances; second, only the five hindrances are called hindrances; third, being heavily veiled and obstructed within ignorance is also called a hindrance. Now, in expounding these three kinds of verbal teachings on hindrances and inclining toward craving, the essence of craving has already appeared in the previous two explanations of hindrances, and it also co-arises with the hindrance of ignorance. Hence, in all three explanations of hindrances, there are statements regarding inclining toward craving.
