The two fetters of affection and hostility arise with respect to both sentient and non-sentient objects; the fetter of pride arises only with respect to sentient beings. As for the fourth, fifth, and sixth, they are doubt, views, and grasping. Regarding "Relying on hearing improper Dharma": the fetter of doubt arises. Regarding "Relying on improper, erroneous reflection": three views are established as the fetter of views. Regarding "Relying on cultivation not subsumed by skillful means": two views are established as the fetter of grasping. Regarding "Such distinctions constitute three": this concludes the three established above, doubt and the like. Seventh, regarding "The matter of unwholesome entanglements of lack of resolute faith in the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya": the fetter of ignorance is established. Eighth, regarding "Relying on the category of the renunciant, the matter of poverty in wisdom": being jealous of others excelling oneself, not giving them the Dharma, resulting in foolishness and darkness in future lives, is the matter of poverty in wisdom; hence the fetter of jealousy is established. Ninth, regarding "Relying on the category of the householder, the matter of poverty in wealth": the fetter of stinginess is established.
