Below, it resolves this doubt: Because the Buddha, the World-Honoured One, consistently proclaimed of himself: "I have thoroughly known and forever severed all graspings," therefore, those who vow to cultivate this Dharma, even if they die and their bodies disintegrate while still bearing afflictions, do not have graspings established in their regard. Because they renounced home with no longing or attachment for desires, there is no grasping at desires; because they have no clinging to views, precepts and vows, or doctrines of self, there are no other three graspings. Those who poorly expound the Dharma are of two kinds: first, those who raise disputes regarding views and craving; second, those who are able to enter worldly absorptions. Relying on disputes over views and craving, grasping at views is established; relying on those who can enter worldly absorptions, grasping at precepts and vows is established. Both categories serve as the basis for clinging to doctrines of self; therefore, relying on both categories, grasping at doctrines of self is established. Herein, regarding "views": this refers to the sixty-two views and below, setting forth the essence of what is grasped; that which is maintained by erroneously conceptualized views is called precepts; deportment and behavioral aspects are called vows; asserting that there is a self because of truth or abiding is called doctrines of self. This text comprehensively takes the view of self and the conceptualized self as the objective sphere of grasping at doctrines of self. Furthermore, below "Herein, with craving for desire as condition, grasping at desire is established," it brings forth the essence of craving that can grasp. Regarding "With craving for existence and non-existence as condition, grasping at doctrines of self is established": toward the conceptualized self, whether existent or non-existent, generating craving within it is called grasping at doctrines of self.
