Regarding "Herein, the first is induced by the cultivation of the faculties": the first, the training in morality, is induced by the cultivation of the faculties. Regarding "The second is induced by the second": the second, the training in mind, is induced by the second, the training in morality; because among the four cultivations, morality is the second, and among the three trainings, morality is the first. Regarding "The third is induced by the third": the third, the training in wisdom, is induced by the third, the cultivation of the mind. Cultivating morality, cultivating the mind, and cultivating wisdom mutually viewed each have three kinds of inducements: One explanation is: cultivating morality has three inducements: morality is induced by the mind, the mind is induced by wisdom, and wisdom is induced by cultivating the faculties. For the mind there are three kinds: the mind is induced by wisdom, wisdom is induced by the self, and morality is induced by cultivating the faculties. For wisdom there are three inducements: wisdom is induced by morality, morality is induced by the mind, and the mind is induced by cultivating the faculties; hence it is said that mutually viewed, each has three kinds. Another explanation is: in the first round, cultivating the faculties is induced by cultivating morality, cultivating the mind is induced by the faculties, and cultivating wisdom is induced by cultivating the mind; in the second round, cultivating the faculties is induced by cultivating the mind, cultivating morality is induced by cultivating the faculties, and cultivating wisdom is induced by cultivating morality; in the third round, cultivating the faculties is induced by cultivating wisdom, cultivating morality is induced by cultivating the faculties, and cultivating the mind is induced by cultivating morality; hence it is said that mutually viewed, each has three kinds of inducements. The statement "Furthermore, bhikṣus guard the faculties" refers to cultivating the faculties. "Cultivating wondrous conduct, and so forth" is cultivating morality. "The mind obtains right concentration" is cultivating the mind. "Seeing in accordance with reality" is cultivating wisdom.
