Master Da states: 'Regarding "the consciousness that acts in accordance with karma," it is the consciousness limb as seed. If considered in light of this passage, aligning directly with the text, the consciousness limb is also subsumed under the defilement of karma. However, it is a seed; the consciousness limb is the seed perfumed by conventional expression, not the continuous flow of existence. Concerning this consciousness limb as seed, the three masters of the Western Country differed: Dharmapāla held that it possesses both innate and newly perfumed [seeds]; Candragopīn held that it is solely innate, both masters stating that they are naturally existing seeds; Jayasena held that they are seeds perfumed by conventional expression that have been perfumed since beginningless time. As for "the great elements on which the faculties depend," these are the four great elements that produce the faculties; "the great elements in the locus of the faculties" are the great elements that produce the auxiliary physical base; "the various forms generated" refers to the auxiliary physical particles and so forth; thus it states "and so forth," concluding the immediate discussion.'
