The second section reiterates the contemplation of the truths, which corresponds to the sequential number of the forty-four knowledges, serving as the fourth approach. Master Jing explains: 'Regarding "first conditioning the future horizon ... up to craving": future birth and old age and death are collectively called the truth of suffering; craving, grasping, and becoming constitute [the truth of] origination. Regarding "thus observing ... up to name-and-form and consciousness": one observes the future origination, namely craving, grasping, and becoming. These three—craving, grasping, and becoming—moreover depend upon the multiple sufferings of the five current factors. The rhetorical structure in this passage merely establishes three stages to roughly observe them in reverse order, which is unlike the Hinayana treatises that finely observe ten factors, applying the contemplation of the four truths to each single factor.'
