Seventh, it explains the gate of declaration. Regarding "Furthermore, the Tathāgatas are adept at avoiding the arguments of others, etc.": Master Tai and others say: "First, when non-Buddhists ask about the self and so forth, these are dharmas that definitely should not be declared; yet they ask an indefinite question, saying 'is the self identical to or different from the body?' and the Tathāgata responds with silence to avoid it. Second, regarding dharmas with distinct meanings like joy and pleasure versus matter and so forth, which are dharmas that definitely should be declared, they ask an indefinite question about identity and difference; furthermore, when they ask an indefinite question about the distinct meanings of joy and pleasure versus the four graspings and afflictions, the Tathāgata is able to avoid them all."
