解初門中，言一、惡行根能令當來住惡趣苦者，身等惡行與惡趣苦為根也；欲恚害三根，與欲等三尋思為根，此二重根也；欲恚害三界復於貪等三根及欲等三根為根，此三重根也。

In explaining the first gate, regarding 'First, the root of evil conduct can cause one to abide in the suffering of bad destinies in the future': bodily and other evil conduct serves as the root for the suffering of bad destinies; the three roots of desire, ill-will, and harmfulness serve as the roots for the three forms of conceptualization such as desire—these are two levels of roots; the three realms of desire, ill-will, and harmfulness furthermore serve as roots for the three roots such as greed and the three roots such as desire—these are three levels of roots.
