初解立門，因奢摩他者，定猗捨三為奢摩他也。毘鉢舍那品者，擇法、精進、喜。俱品者，念通二分也。

First, explaining the gate of establishment: 'relying on śamatha'—the three of samādhi, pliancy, and equanimity constitute śamatha. 'Belonging to the category of vipaśyanā' refers to investigation of dharmas, vigor, and joy. 'Belonging to both categories' refers to mindfulness, which pertains to both divisions.
