Eighth is to explain knowledge free from grasping. 'Furthermore, diligent exertion' up to 'being of the category of the body and capable of apprehending the body': cultivating the four foundations of mindfulness, one knows that there is no self; the contemplating and the contemplated are both of the category of the body, so it repeats 'equal', being of the category of the body and capable of grasping or relinquishing the body. 'Just as the body is without a self, mental attention is also like this': contemplating that the body is without a self, the wisdom of non-self is precisely a part of the body, and proper mental attention arising by taking the body as an object is also a part of the body; that is, contemplating dharmas by means of dharmas. As for 'this says that that' up to 'is completely ungraspable': if there were a spiritual self capable of cultivating the foundation of mindfulness of the body, it would be completely ungraspable; following the foundation of mindfulness of the body, the remaining three foundations of mindfulness are treated analogously.
