Third is to explain active manifestations. Master Jing says: 'First, receiving and maintaining what is not subsumed under cessation and so forth is the precept of active practice; second, receiving and maintaining what is subsumed under cessation and so forth is the precept of cessation practice. Below "these further two kinds", differentiating cessation practice, there are further these two: that which is spoken in the Vinaya and not spoken in the Prātimokṣa refers to the extensive Vinayas of the five divisions, not the single-fascicle Prātimokṣa code of precepts; that which is spoken in the Vinaya and is also spoken in the Prātimokṣa refers to that single-fascicle Prātimokṣa precept combined within those extensive texts of the five divisions, which serves as the proposition of both. Therefore, in all there are three loci: first, higher active manifestation, which is active practice; second, higher Vinaya, which is the extensive Vinayas of the five divisions; third, higher Prātimokṣa, which is the single-fascicle code of precepts.' Master Da says: 'That which is not subsumed under the superior refers to the Prātimokṣa precepts. That which is subsumed under cessation refers to the precepts concurrent with concentration.'
