調伏事總擇攝之一者，梵語毘奈耶，此云調伏，制除諸惡云調伏。總攝簡擇戒律要事，故云調伏事總擇攝文，有一卷半，此卷在初，故云之一。

Regarding 'General Determination and Compilation on the Topic of Vinaya, Part 1': in Sanskrit it is vinaya, here translated as 'taming and subduing' (tiaofu); restraining and removing all evils is called 'taming and subduing'. It generally compiles and determines the essential matters of the precepts and monastic discipline, hence it is called 'General Determination and Compilation on the Topic of Vinaya'. The text comprises one and a half fascicles; this fascicle is the first, hence called 'Part 1'.
