The eighth explains faith and non-faith. First it discerns faith, and then indirectly illuminates non-faith. Within the former, it sets out five gates and explains them in sequence. For the former four texts, examine the Śrāvakabhūmi. In the fifth text, concerning the six roots of dispute, infer them based on the text below: (1) anger and resentment, (2) concealment and conceit, (3) greed/desire or deceit and flattery, (4) committing transgressions due to lack of shame and conscience, (5) distraction or torpor, (6) restlessness or bad discernment. If relying on the Māyī [commentary], there are six roots of dispute: (1) malice, (2) harming, (3) hypocrisy, (4) stinginess and jealousy, (5) clinging to views, (6) the two views of extremes and deviance.
