Second, in explaining the attainment of means, there are briefly four kinds of yoga. Regarding "excellent means... up to what is subsumed under these two is named non-negligence," Master Jing says: This text takes the two dharmas of mindfulness and wisdom as non-negligence, whereas the preceding Maulī Bhūmiḥ and the Abhidharma take the three wholesome roots and vigor as non-negligence. Master Tai also says: Excellent means is non-negligence, and non-negligence takes the two dharmas of mindfulness and correct knowledge as its essence, unlike the four kinds of yoga in other texts. Master Da says: Question: What is the reason for the difference between the two texts? Answer: It is simply that all wholesome dharmas are non-negligence; each takes a different sense, and therefore it is like this.
