Answer: A single cause does not depend on many; stating the primary without the assisting initiates it. Supporting conditions necessarily depend on several; hence primary and assisting are both set forth. Regarding the passage "Stated on the basis of being the condition that initiates all formations," and so forth: it is not only stated as the condition for bodily and verbal formations; hence volition is not stated to be the condition for body and speech. And, it is stated on the basis of being the condition that generates wholesome and defiled volition; hence ignorance is stated as the condition, and it is not stated as the condition for indeterminate formations, because bodily and verbal formations are only indeterminate. It merely states that ignorance initiates all formations, because it can immediately initiate the wholesome and defiled states of body, speech, and mind.
