Regarding 'Twentieth, suffering and the causes of suffering: five can generate suffering,' these refer to ignorance, volitional formations, craving, clinging, and existence. 'The five that are the matrix of suffering' refer to the seeds of the five beginning with consciousness; the substance of suffering is precisely birth and aging-and-death.
