Regarding 'neither black nor white, non-maturation karma that can exhaust karmas', etc.: because it is undefiled, it is called not black; because it is not contaminated wholesome karma, it is called not white; because it does not incur an unobscured-unrecorded fruit, it is called having no maturation fruit; because it can sever the previous three karmas, it is called being able to exhaust karmas. Thus it takes all undefiled expedients and the two paths of the uninterrupted path as the fourth karma. The Abhidharma[-samuccaya] also says: 'Neither black nor white karma that can exhaust karmas refers to the taintless karmas in the expedient and uninterrupted paths, because they are the antidotes that sever those karmas.' This differs from the Hīnayāna treatises, which explain only seventeen taintless volitions as the fourth karma.
