了相作意能了下地麁相上地靜相，此初作意聞思猶雜，自此已後一向修相，數數思惟此麁靜相數起勝解，名勝解作意。

The mental application discerning the characteristics is able to discern the coarse characteristics of the lower stages and the tranquil characteristics of the higher stages. In this initial mental application, listening and contemplating are still mixed; from this point forward, it is exclusively the characteristic of cultivation. Frequently contemplating these coarse and tranquil characteristics and repeatedly giving rise to resolute faith is called 'the mental application of resolute faith'.
