Second, identifying their essential nature: Both the Abhidharma[-samuccaya] and the Xianyang make this statement: The first two stations of mastery issue from the first vimokṣa; the next two stations of mastery issue from the second vimokṣa; the latter four stations of mastery issue from the third vimokṣa. In the pure vimokṣa, the first two ideations of pure and impure mutually depend on each other and mutually interpenetrate; in this way, mutually proceeding, all forms in their entirety are unified into a single taste, and this resolution of pure ideation is called 'mutually becoming of a single taste.' Therefore, the latter four stations of mastery issue from the third vimokṣa. Thus, the essence of these eight is precisely the preceding three vimokṣas.
