云何應知其相者，前退方便定，後退根本定，故云翻前，此後二退並據異生伏惑還退。由依如是至安立四轉者，謂由依如是興衰二無倒故安立四轉，故結也。

Regarding 'How should one know its marks?': formerly one retrograded from preparatory absorption, and later one retrogrades from fundamental absorption; hence it says 'inverts the prior'. These latter two retrogradations are both based on ordinary beings who subdue afflictions and then retrograde again. Regarding 'From relying on such... up to establishing the four turnings': this means that relying on such two non-inversions regarding flourishing and decline, the four turnings are established; hence it concludes.
