Under the cause of cessation: 'the cessation of conditioned formations' refers to the realm of cessation, which is the cessation of formations of the three natures that are with taints; 'the cessation of defilement' refers to the realm of abandoning and the realm free of desire, which are the abandonment of afflictions of seeing and cultivation—this cites the truth of cessation; 'all paths capable of tranquilizing' refers to all taintless paths capable of tranquilizing the former two cessations; these taintless paths 'can attain parinirvāṇa, can proceed toward bodhi, as well as their provisions and expedients, etc.'—Jing says: this refers to the proximate path of provisions and the remote path of expedients, which can serve as aids, can generate the noble path, and can accomplish nirvāṇa, and by extension are also called causes of cessation. Ji says: 'and their provisions' means the path of provisions; 'together with their expedients' means the path of application; 'capable of generating' refers to the seeds capable of generating that path; 'capable of accomplishing' refers to the active taintless path capable of accomplishing nirvāṇa.
