5.408

長行釋中，若攝諸根，不欲貪損壞其心下，釋第四頌根本觀，將釋彼頌，預前判簡。了知是已，未離欲貪一分學者下，正釋本頌。亦可又此欲貪纏及隨眠略有二種補特伽羅相續可得等下，方乃釋第四頌。貪欲生五因中，第二、由欣樂欲樂；三、由取男女等有情想；四、由猛貪逼迫。

In the prose commentary: the passage below 'if one restrains the sense faculties, craving desire will not damage one's mind' explains the fundamental contemplation of the fourth verse; about to explain that verse, it makes this determination and differentiation beforehand. The passage below 'having understood this, a trainee who has not yet abandoned craving desire' directly explains the root verse. It may also be that only from the passage below 'furthermore, this entanglement and latency of craving desire can be found in two types of streams of personal continuities' onward is the fourth verse explained. Among the five causes for the arising of lustful craving: the second is rejoicing in sensual pleasure; the third is grasping at notions of sentient beings such as male and female; the fourth is being oppressed by fierce craving.
