波羅延者是經名，從請人為名，波羅名彼岸，延之言趣，梵音迷底履此云慈氏，即族姓，名字阿氏多，此言無勝，舊曰彌勒阿逸多並訛也。

'Pārāyana' is the title of the sutra, named after the person who made the inquiry. 'Pāra' means the other shore; 'ayana' means heading toward. The Sanskrit 'Maitrī' means 'Compassionate One' here, which is the family name; the given name is 'Ajita,' which means 'Invincible' here. The old translations 'Mile' and 'Ayiduo' are both corruptions.
