初則為十段，初明三種：一、有情門，即住有三，要依有情，方有情非情、因及果、染與淨、生死涅槃、有為無為等。
The first section consists of ten parts. First, it clarifies three types: First, the gate of sentient beings; that is, abodes are threefold. Only by relying on sentient beings can there be sentient and non-sentient, cause and fruit, defilement and purity, saṃsāra and nirvāṇa, conditioned and unconditioned, and so forth.
